An early scientific research of mercury poisoning was in 1923–1926 with the German inorganic chemist, Alfred Stock, who himself grew to become poisoned, along with his colleagues, by respiratory mercury vapor which was becoming released by his laboratory devices—diffusion pumps, float valves, and manometers—all of which contained mercury, and
